Matthew Simpson

Matthew is a certified Professional Wetland Scientist and has over 25 years' experience managing wetland-related conservation, research, management and capacity building projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and North America.

Matthew is a Director of 35percent that delivers wetland projects globally and a Co-Director of the Cobra Collective that empowers marginalised communities. Matthew is also the Vice Chair of the Ramsar Section and Immediate Past President of the Europe Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists and chair of the Globalization Committee of the Society of Wetland Scientists Professional Certification Program. He is also a Technical Expert on the Ramsar Convention of Wetlands’ Scientific and Technical Review Panel and on the INTECOL Wetland Working Group.

Matthew's areas of technical expertise are habitat restoration; natural infrastructure design; wetland management guidance and policy; wetland visitor management planning; wetland technical assessments; and integration of indigenous and local community knowledge into wetland management
