Raija Laiho
I am a peatland and forest ecologist with a strong interest in what goes on in the soil. Much of my research has dealt with how water-level drawdown affects peatland ecosystem structure and function. Evaluating the bases for, and impacts of, forestry on peatlands has been another common thread in my research. I am currently studying, e.g., root-mediated C fluxes in pristine and drained peatlands, and the potential of different forest management options, such as continuous-cover forestry, to mitigate the environmental impacts of forestry on peatlands.
